INITIATIVES

CMS is committed to bringing you innovative approaches to healing communities. We’re proud to share with you a few of our current initiatives.

Hep C Program

Community Medical Services is excited to announce the expansion of our hepatitis C (HCV) services. CMS has developed partnerships with specialty providers to assist with caring for clients seeking HCV screening and treatment.

In our pilot in Arizona, we screened 237 CMS clients. Of those screened, 42 tests detected HCV and 14 clients successfully completed the treatment regimen! This is a collaborative effort involving multiple departments and positions including medical providers, counselors, peer support specialists, nurses, and front desk staff. HCV testing and treatment will be incorporated into treatment plans so clinicians can stay engaged and regularly discuss the topic with our clients.

CMS anticipates we will be providing HCV screening to all clients by the end of Summer 2021. The HCV program is aligned with CMS’ value to meet people where they are at and continue to address public health issues that stem from the opioid crisis.

Opioid Treatment on Demand (OTOD)

At CMS, we believe in breaking down barriers to care in creative and innovative ways. Most notably, we opened the nation’s first 24/7 opioid treatment program (OTP) in Phoenix. We have since gone on to expand this Opioid Treatment on Demand (OTOD) model, providing extended hours, to Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio and West Allis, Wisconsin, and Mesa, Arizona. At CMS, we focus on meeting the challenges presented by the ever-growing opioid epidemic in communities lacking treatment options. OTODs are uniquely positioned to provide community support by expanding hours beyond the traditional 4:30am to 11:30am treatment model. At CMS, OTODs provide extended operating hours (with certain locations offering 24/7 availability) allowing for more convenient hours for clients seeking care.

Recovery Wellness Center

CMS is excited to announce the opening of the Recovery Wellness Center on Cactus (RWCC) in Phoenix off the I-17 and Cactus Rd. The RWCC will offer a variety of services, including employment support services and a fitness center with cardio and weightlifting equipment, as well as group classes. The employment center offers participants access to vocational services and a computer lab. The RWCC Fitness Center offers free, community-based fitness classes, specifically for individuals in recovery from a substance use disorder. The classes offered inside the RWCC are run by The Barbell Saves Project, whose mission is to empower those seeking recovery to achieve long-term success and well-being through community-based fitness and health programs. This initiative was made possible through State Opioid Treatment (SOR) funds provided by Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Address: 2806 W Cactus Rd, Suite 120, Phoenix, AZ 85029
